CERAMIC TILE SUBLIMATION

- The recommended settings below may need adjustments for best results.
Settings will vary depending on the heat press brand and model ink and paper
and atmospheric conditions.
- The use of the Nomex Pad or felt pad and the specific layering of the tile
and transfer allow the tile to press into the pad which helps wrap the
transfer around the tapered edge of the tile to produce a continuous
distribution of ink to the entire tile and its tapered edges.
- To avoid ink blow-back place a sheet of scratch paper on top of the Nomex
Pad/felt pad. This will extend the life of the Nomex Pad and prevent
discoloration and contamination from the ink to the pad.

Supplies needed:
-  (tile)
- Nomex Pad
- sublimation transfer
- teflon or scratch paper
- heat tape

Heat press settings:
- temperature - 400 degrees F
- dwell time - varies depending on tile size.
- pressure - light

Layer the press from the bottom pad to the top heat platen as follows:
1. teflon sheet or scratch paper
2. Nomex pad
3. scratch paper (optional but recommended; see step 4 below)
4. transfer (face up)
5. substrate (tile - face down)
6. teflon sheet or scratch paper

Steps:
1. Wipe the substrate with lint-free cloth to remove any debris if
necessary.
2. Position the substrate face down onto the transfer.
3. Tape two ends of the substrate to the transfer using the heat tape.
4. Place thin piece of scratch paper/butcher paper onto Nomex Pad to protect
pad from blow-back ink).
5. Place the transfer and substrate in the press onto the Nomex Pad (transfer
is under the tile face up; the tile is on top face down).
6. Place the teflon sheet/scratch paper over the transfer and substrate.
7. Press the items using the settings listed above. Also see variable dwell
times for varias sizes below.
8. Remove items from the press immediately. Use heat resistant gloves if
necessary - the items will be very hot.
9. Tear the transfer in half opposite of the taped ends and allow several
minutes to cool.

Tips:
- If the image of the final product appears light increase the dwell time or
pressure slightly (20-30 seconds). Too much pressure can crack the ceramic
tile.
- If the tile is cracked after sublimating reduce the pressure.
- If the image on the final product appears blurred or substrate appears
yellowed reduce the dwell time slightly (20-30 seconds).
